Alloy 254 SMO is a very high end, molybdenum and nitrogen alloyed super austenitic stainless steel with low carbon content. The chromium element reacts with oxygen to form a dense oxide film (chromium oxide layer), which prevents further oxidation and corrosion on the surface of the steel, making the stainless steel resistant to the erosion of most chemical media.
